Are You At Risk Of Death From Omega 3 Deficiency?

By Peter Bertonach

It is estimated that anywhere up to 95 percent of adults in the United States suffer from a condition called omega 3 deficiency. Omega 3 deficiency is where there are low levels of Omega 3 essential fatty acids in your body.

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are the 2 main Omega 3 essential fatty acids and they are found primarily in fish oil. They are known as essential fatty acids because they are very important to our health and they are only obtained from our diet, and are not produced in the body.

The benefits omega3 essential fatty acids were established originally after studies of people who ate large amounts of fish, because fish oil is the best source of these 2 essential Omega 3 fatty acids. These were the Japanese and the Eskimos and the studies concluded that the reason that these people have such low rates of diseases such as heart disease was because of their high intake of fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.

Unfortunately in the US we eat too little fish and too much red meat, sugar and salt and processed food and as a result, including as a result of the resultant omega 3 deficiency, we are subject to a wide range of preventable health conditions.

These preventable health conditions include a number of fatal conditions such as heart attack and stroke. The American Heart Association recommends that we increase our intake of fish or supplement our diet with omega 3 supplements to increase our intake of these important essential fatty acids.

But a new study has now hammered home the reality, estimating that up to 96,000 Americans could be dying every year from omega3 deficiency. Whilst smoking is still the biggest preventable cause of death omega 3 deficiency is up there.

And it's so easy to prevent a deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids. You can eat more fish though that is expensive and fish is generally contaminated with toxins, or you can take daily omega 3 capsules which are not contaminated and which are much more cost-effective.

Chances are you're one of the more than 90 percent of Americans who is potentially at risk of death from omega 3 deficiency, a condition that can be readily reversed. Even the American Heart Association now recognizes the importance of adequate levels of omega 3 essential fatty acids in our diet.

And it's not just fatal conditions that are improved by increasing your intake of essential fats. There's a wide range of other lifestyle conditions that are also improved by increasing essential fats in the diet and these include depression, macular degeneration, ADHD, arthritis, weight loss, diabetes and even more.

Science has slowly understanding the importance of a regular intake of essential fatty acids found in fish oil to our diet and to our enjoyment of life and health. My quest is to educate readers on my website of all the benefits of Omega 3 supplementation, which may include saving your life.

But not all Omega 3 supplements are good supplements. You need to know how to compare fish oil supplements to find out which are the best and which represent the best value. Visit my website to find out. - 32389
